TDEE Calculator

Your TDEE is the calories you burn in a day: resting energy times your activity level. Enter four numbers to see your range and a safe amount to eat to lose weight.

How we got it

Mifflin-St Jeor resting energy (10 x weight in kg + 6.25 x height in cm - 5 x age, +5 for men, -161 for women, -78 for the average formula), multiplied by an activity factor from 1.2 to 1.725. Shown as plus or minus 10% because real burn varies. To lose weight we take about 500 calories off, never below your resting energy or 1,200 (women) / 1,500 (men) calories.

Questions

What is a good TDEE calculator to lose weight?

One that shows a range and a floor. Eating about 500 calories under your TDEE loses roughly 0.5 kg a week at first; losses slow as your weight falls, which is why a dated forecast should adjust as you log.

Is TDEE the same as BMR?

No. BMR is what you burn at complete rest. TDEE adds everything you do in a day, so it is usually 1.2 to 1.7 times your BMR.

How accurate is it?

Formulas like this are within about 10% for most people. Your own weight trend over 2 to 3 weeks is the best check.
